Zorbtive® [somatropin (rDNA origin) for injection] is indicated for the treatment of Short Bowel Syndrome (SBS) in patients receiving specialized nutritional support. Optimal management of SBS may include dietary adjustments, enteral feedings, parenteral nutrition, and fluid and micronutrient supplements, as needed. Some common side effects of Zorbtive treatment include muscle and joint pain, and fluid retention (swelling). Zorbtive may also cause serious side effects such as inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), diabetes or other blood sugar problems, pain, numbness or tingling in the wrist and hand, or increased blood pressure in the brain. Make sure and talk with your doctor about these side effects. Do not take Zorbtive if you have any of the following serious medical conditions: open-heart surgery; stomach-area (abdominal) surgery; an accident; breathing problems (respiratory failure); cancer; or, allergy to Zorbtive or other growth hormone medications.
